Making 'Em Move (1931) offers a fantasy of cartoon production in which human labor has been replaced by that of the characters themselves, some of whom are machines.

As the cartoon shifts into a fantasy of exhibition towards the end, its characters take in an outdoor screening, watching a cartoon that other cartoon characters have produced.
