In Winsor McCay, the famous Cartoonist of the N.Y. Herald and His Moving Comics (1911), Little Nemo stands in for McCay, deforming Impy and Flip as if they alone were trapped in a funhouse mirror. This trick of deforming and reforming cartoon characters became a trope. In Rabbit Seasoning (1952) Daffy Duck has his beak is blown off, much to his annoyance.
