Race, Page 229

In Trader Mickey (1932), a cannibal chef mistakes a saxophone that Mickey has brought to sell for a ladle—until Mickey grabs it and his playing and triggers the natives' innate rhythm. Some break into his stores and wrestle with instruments they do not understand, yet which they can play perfectly. A grotesque conflation of object and subject, the natives not only play the instruments, but also themselves and each other, stretching their cartoon bodies in feats of impossible plasticity.
