In the cartoons Snow White (1932), Minnie the Moocher (1932), and Old Man of the Mountain (1933), jazz great Cab Calloway was rotoscoped onto the ambiguous minstrel character Ko-Ko, turned into a ghostly dancing walrus, or made into a monstrous mountain man. These cartoons made direct connections between minstrelsy and white anxieties surrounding popular black culture.
