Race, Page 235

Swing, Monkey, Swing (1937) offers up some of the more overt racist depictions of jazz performers, depicting Fats Waller, Cab Calloway, and the Mills Brothers (famous for imitating jazz instruments vocally) as monkeys, living in huts in the jungle. Neither fully human nor animal, the primates are missing links, swinging so hard that their jazz transforms the landscape, blending the African jungle with the Pampas, with the American ghetto, all to the tune of "St. Louis Blues."
