Race, Page 261

In Lucky Ducky (1948) an exploding shotgun shell transforms two witless hunters into "pickaninnies." This 1948 MGM short features a repeating trope in Golden Age animation: the ostensibly white character is blown into abject blackness by an explosion. Instead of being killed or maimed, the character is blown into a racist blackface caricature, expressing blackness as humiliation.
