Blackberries just getting
ripe. Many roses in bloom
For dinner in this large
Hotel were 13 people besides
ourselves.
Sept 30 In walked before breakfast
after light frost last
night saw many men + women
bathing. Left at 10 via Christ
church + drove through New
Forest via Lyndhurst. Many
fine old trees + beautiful
sections of woods + much open land
This was full of soldiers
maneuvering many of them red
cross men + some artillery
At Salisbury went to Cathedral
Disappointed in plainness of
interior + lack of old glass
Cloisters + chapter house fine
Spire the highest in England
but like rest of exterior is
rather plain. Poor lunch
at County Hotel. Most of diners
being officers. Then on to
Stonehenge + then through
Andover, passing on the way
