Aug 28 Jep + I walked to Consul
+ registered. He thought chances
of sailing early much better from
England where over 80 steamers
are booked to sail next month
and only four from Holland
Also is advising Americans
to leave Holland. Went to
Amsterdam Bank + sold 1145
marks at 56 cents Dutch
Stopped at S.S. Agency + got
them to wire England to see
if any early date was available.
After good lunch got
one horse landau and
drove about City for 2 hours
Canals, docks, + markets in
jew quarter most interesting
Rest of city of not much int
Good route now open to England
so decided to go the 30th
The General Staff are quartered
in Hotel so there are sentries
in front + all over it
Fine weather continues
