faint in church + went to bed
on return. Rained all PM
Jep telegraphed from Berlin
there were rooms at the
Bristol and to take the
morning train as service
was not yet closed.
Aug 3 Up early to take 853 train
but were assured it would
miss connection at Magdeburg so
we took 11.15 Very gull Meet
pleasant young german who had
been 8 months in the states +
spoke english well. Gave us
good advice. Had attended Hill
school. Missed connecting at 4
Magdeburg. Our german friend
found there would be no train
until 4 so we went to Central H
off station + got a room + lunch
Porter sent a man to station with
us who put us in charge of
porter. Immense crowd on platform
who rushed the train when
it arr 1/2 hour late. Impossible
to get on. Later they tracked down
a few more cars + we got an
empty first class compartment to
