Many roses in bloom For dinner in this large Hotel were 13 people besides ourselves. Sept 30 In walked before breakfast after light frost last night saw many men + women bathing. Left at 10 via Christ church + drove through New Forest via Lyndhurst. Many fine old trees + beautiful sections of woods + much open land This was full of soldiers maneuvering many of them red cross men + some artillery At Salisbury went to Cathedral Disappointed in plainness of interior + lack of old glass Cloisters + chapter house fine Spire the highest in England but like rest of exterior is rather plain. Poor lunch at County Hotel. Most of diners being officers. Then on to Stonehenge + then through Andover, passing on the way
