Page 29: August 14-15, 1914

for 400 Had a telephone call
from Embassy in morning saying
the Amer Ambassador at Paris had
wired to know if we were here +
if we were to assist in any way
they could. The talker said if
they could do anything for us to
let them know. Made our own tea
in rooms.
Aug 15 Sprinkled in morning but
fine rest of day. Walked with
N. in morning looking in windows
while Jep walked in Park with
Mother. In afternoon took Auto
to Pension Tscheuschner in
Kurfursten strasse 112 and
called on Miss Spenser who
was Helens teacher She is
laid up with a lame leg
due to a sprain. Says there
are about 20 Americans in the
Pension + some of them have
very little money. Her niece is
with her. N. + I took short
walk after tea + Jep dined out
with young Hertenstein of
Cincinnatti [sic.] His Mother is
