Head for the view + then
along the coast. At New Haven
were troops encamped and
much work being done to
protect the harbor in wire
entanglements trenches +
covered pits. Arr Brighton
at 1215 Sea front for 3
miles lined with Hotels and
pensions. Place seemed
crowded. Not as fashionable
or attractive as Eastborne
and promenade much less
attractive. Full of catch
penny shows. Had a good
lunch at Metropole a
large attractive house
Very fine collection of small
birds in Palm garden in
large cages. Left at 230
Fine rolling country. Took
old coaching road to London
Just north of Reigate got
very fine view. Road good
