Large excited crowd of Americans
all at a los to know what to
do or how they will get money
to live on. Those with Amer. Ex notes
all right as they are
cashing all presented
Notice posted saying no foreigners
can leave Germany until mobilization
is complete + further
notice given. We got passports
+ ladies will also have to have
them. N. is on mine.
Aug 5 Jep + I went to Embassy
with Mother + Grant. Large
crowd then including many English
Embassador announced that he
had no instructions from English
Embassy to look after British
subjects. Took Mother 2 hours
to get passport for herself +
maid. Walked with N. on Inter
den Linden in P.M. not going far
from Hotel. Nobody noticed us
Aug 6 Went to Dresden Bank
They said the cable to America
was not open but the gave
me 10 pounds drawn on Brown
