to American Special at 3 +
rest went to station Charlottenburg
at 4. Train of 6 sleepers
6 coaches + diner. Comfortably
filled. Left at 5.15. Great
crowd at station to see us off
After starting got another
room in sleeper. N + I + Mother
+ Grant. Jep in coach had
full length lounge. Jep
lost his ticket but it did
not matter. Passports casually
examined before starting
Had our lunch for supper like
most other passengers but
there was room in diner
about 300 on train. Went
slow + all slept well. Saw
only few trains of troops.
Aug 27 Ladies had coffee
in booths + men in dinning car
3/4th of passengers were German
Americans + talked German
Reached Bentheim the German
frontier at 330 Men only were
told to go to waiting room
with passport which were
