equipped hospital ship
Aug 14 Began this morning to
again have breakfast sent to our
room. No war news. Took walk
of over mile with N. + 2 miles with
Jep Streets very quiet. After
lunch went to Embassy for passports
after vise [[?]] by the Foreign
office. Was told to pass on +
get them stamped for transportation.
Stamped mine but
said a lady (meaning Mother)
who could travel with a maid
could afford to pay her own
trans. Told the Sec'y I was
not asking for trans. and did
not enter our names.
A notice was posted at Embassy
advising that as it was very
uncertain when, if any, ships
could be sent over, all Americans
who were able should arrange
to return by one of the regular
S.S. lines Also saying that
only 261 Americans availed
themselves of the special train
yesterday which had room
