Portrait of King brought
applause from only half a
dozen people but portrait
of King Abbot of Belgium
was much more applauded.
Sept 2 Jep + I walked to
Embassy offices in Victoria
St. + registered. Asked if it
would be safe + pleasant to
make a motor trip in England
but they could not say + referred
me to the police. Walked
back along the Thames + to
the Savoy Hotel. The large
room on ground floor was
filled with long tables and
the Amer. relief com. was
giving aid to Americans who
required it. Indians negroes
+ every class imaginable
Hotel seemed very full + all
kinds of people there. Decided
we much preferred the Piccadilly,
as it is great, well
run, + a very central location.
Jep + I walked to Cooks at
Ludgate circus. They offered
