Aug 31 Very noisy this morning
early + did not sleep much
Large boat about 3000 tons + had good
breakfast + lunch on board.
The shop took on dozens of
immense crates of dressed pork
for England. We started at
1130 + went East along shore
for some distance to get
around the mines. The Queen
of Belgium
was in a steamer
just ahead of us escorted
by several men of war. Sea
like a mill pond. Many
torpedo boats cruising up +
down the channel. Boat only
1/2 full. Arr Folkstone at 6
My passport was asked for
but others were not. Baggage
passed without examination
Arr Westover station at 830
Jep + Grant remained to get
trunks and we went on to the
Carlton. They had no rooms
+ had engaged an apt. at
the Piccadilly Hotel. Fine
