Aug 31 Very noisy this morning early + did not sleep much Large boat about 3000 tons + had good breakfast + lunch on board. The shop took on dozens of immense crates of dressed pork for England. We started at 1130 + went East along shore for some distance to get around the mines. The Queen of Belgium was in a steamer just ahead of us escorted by several men of war. Sea like a mill pond. Many torpedo boats cruising up + down the channel. Boat only 1/2 full. Arr Folkstone at 6 My passport was asked for but others were not. Baggage passed without examination Arr Westover station at 830 Jep + Grant remained to get trunks and we went on to the Carlton. They had no rooms + had engaged an apt. at the Piccadilly Hotel. Fine
