A yes/no question is any question that can be answered with a ‘yes’ or a ‘no.’ Some examples of yes/no questions in English are ‘Did you go?’ and ‘Are we going to take it?’
The formation of yes/no questions in SENĆOŦEN is very easy. Simply put E right after the verb.
If there is any tense marker, the E goes before it. But remember that the tense marker is optional if the context makes it clear.
There are types of questions that require an answer other than ‘yes’ or ‘no.’ These other types of questions are the ‘who,’ ‘what,’ ‘how,’ ‘where,’ ‘when,’ and ‘why’ questions. These questions are a little more complicated in SENĆOŦEN and are covered later.
Note that this little particle is never stressed.
Negative yes/no questions like ‘Didn’t you go?’ have a special form in SENĆOŦEN. Negative yes/no questions will be covered with other negative words in §14.
The fifth model shows that the yes/no question marker has a special form when it follows some words ending in a vowel. Use ¸Á instead of E when the verb ends in a vowel.
