31.3. Passive with noun phrase subject

kʷənáŋətəŋ cə húʔpt.‘The deer was helped.’
kʷənáŋənəŋ cə húʔpt.‘The deer was accidentally helped.’

1  When a noun phrase is used with a passive verb, it is translated as undergoing the action.
cx̣náŋ u cə ʔən̓sčaʔkʷaʔyúɬ.‘Did your car get hit?’
ʔáa. mán̓ ʔuʔ qiqéʔyətəŋ.‘Yes. It’s really ruined.’
ʔáčənaʔ! ʔaʔstúŋət caʔ cxʷ ʔuč.‘My goodness! What will you do?’
štə́ŋ caʔn!‘I’ll walk!’
