Klallam Grammar

24 Source, Way, and Destination

Before starting this section, review §23 on place expressions, since all of those ways of talking about coming and going will be useful in this section.
As all languages do, Klallam has means of expressing how one gets from one place to another. For example, ‘I went from Port Angeles to Victoria,’ ‘I went by canoe,’ ‘I went to Seattle by ferry,’ ‘I went through Sequim to Port Gamble,’ and so on. In §23 you learned places and how to say you are going to or coming from those places. In this section you will learn how to link places with ways of getting there.
In linking places on a journey, there are three basic elements that are indicated in Klallam: source, where the journey starts; way, the route or mode of travel; and destination, where the journey ends. In §24.1 we look at how the source and destination are expressed. In §24.2 you will find out how to express the way and source. In §24.3 we cover the way and destination.
