Klallam Grammar

47 Activity Suffixes

This section covers four suffixes that make intransitive verbs referring to types of activities. Activities can be structured, like setting up fishing gear, sweeping, or advising. Or they can be customary, like gardening, washing clothes, or cooking. Or they can be regular or habitual, like preaching, gossiping, being a liar or a jealous person. In Klallam these types of activities have special markings.

The suffixes in this section are used to derive new words and can be useful for creating words that cannot be found in the Klallam Dictionary. These suffixes are not used productively in grammatical constructions like the ‘actual’ (§42) or the ‘reflexive’ or ‘noncontrol middle’ (§46).
