This report serves as an example of how mapping can be used to evaluate problems with food access. In particular, maps were used to evaluate transportation access routes to healthy food for North Minneapolis residents. Other factors such as car ownership and socioeconomic status played a role.
Pages 7-14 explain the methodology of using GIS (Geographic Information Systems) data to identify obstacles in transportation to food. (Please note that the USDA website referenced on page 9 can be found here.) Appendix III, beginning on page 40, includes these maps.
