This detail from a 1925 article in Moving Picture World provides instructions for a costumed actor to act as if he were Felix the Cat in a live performance that could accompany a Felix cartoon.
These supplementary presentations connected the stage, screen and audience within one coherent narrative space, and helped to sell sound technology as a narrative enhancement—a technology which would eventually replace the need for live performers in the cinema.
