High Hawk is prominent among the Brules mainly because he is now their leading historical authority, being much in demand to determine the dates of events important to his fellow tribesmen. His calendar, or "winter-count," is explained, and in part reproduced, in Volume III, pages 159-182.plain2018-03-16T21:11:02-07:00Curtis, Edward S. 1868-19521907Digital images of the plates supported by an award from the Library of Congress/Ameritech National Digital Library Competition, and mounted in American Memory.
