Center of the Study of Political Graphics collection, 1900-present
This collection contains over 90,000 domestic and international political posters and prints relating to historical and contemporary movements for social change. The LGBTQ+ posters primarily consist of protest posters that record LGBTQ+ activism and political organizing. Subjects and topics include marriage equality, HIV/AIDS, boycotts, youth and students, violence against LGBTQ+ people, laws and propositions, and Pride. LGBTQ+ creators featured in the collection include artists Julio Salgado, Ester Hernández, Micah Bazant, Liz Hale, Cheri Gaulke, Alma Lopez, Robert Birch; important art collectives such as Dyke Action Machine (DAM), Gran Fury; feminist art collectives such as Chicago Women’s Graphics Collective, Woman’s Building (Los Angeles), Women’s Action Coalition (WAC), See Red Women’s Workshop (London); organizations such as ACT UP/LA, Queer Nation (Los Angeles chapter), and Christopher Street West.Queer Rights Are Human Rights: Posters of LGBTQ Struggles & Celebrations (online exhibition)*
