Historical Society of Long Beach

Through historical collections, exhibitions, and programs, the Historical Society of Long Beach (HSLB) seeks to present an inclusive community narrative and help create a greater understanding of Long Beach neighborhoods, the city, and its place in the larger world. 

LGBTQ+ topics and themes represented in the collections held by the Historical Society of Long Beach include Black LGBTQ+ people, Latino/a/x LGBTQ+ people, Gay men, Lesbians, Health, Kink, Religion and spirituality, and Politics. 


A Note on the Material

The LGBTQ+ collection at the Historical Society of Long Beach includes photographs, oral histories, print media, a brief historical timeline, Pride and other event ephemera, personal collections, "Coming Out in Long Beach" exhibition materials, and much more from the Long Beach community which has LGBTQ+ history going back to the beginnings of the city's founding.
