Recollections of My Life and Reflections on Times and Events During It: A Memoir by Father W. J. Howlett

President Lincoln's Assassination

On April 14, 1865 Abraham Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth at Ford’s Theater in Washington D.C. The assassination took place just days after Robert E. Lee surrendered, effectively ending the Civil War. The assassination would happen only after a kidnapping attempt failed earlier in the day. While Lincoln survived the night of the 14th, he would die the following morning.
