Irish Rebellion of 1798
A political organization known as the United Irishmen gained traction in Ireland, so did the desire for radical reform. Drawing on the French and American revolutions for inspiration, the Irish Rebellion was violent leading to the death of tens of thousands of Irishmen. Although the rebellion wanted to create more self determination for Ireland, the result was just the opposite, leading instead to the dissolution of the Irish Parliament and the strengthening of bonds between the United Kingdom and Ireland.
