The Asociación de Bibliotecarios Escolares de Puerto Rico (ABESPRI) offered two workshops for school librarians “Identificación de riesgo en material de archivo antes de una emergencia: Micro y macro perspectivas para su conservación” by Dr. Johnny Lugo Vega and “Después del desastre: Respuesta y rescate de recursos de información” by Hilda Teresa Ayala González. Brinnen Carter from FEMA and Lori Foley from HENTF also provided orientation. The activity was held at the Universidad del Turabo in Caguas.

Adiestramiento en manejo de colecciones culturales durante emergencias by the Heritage Emergency National Task Force A team sponsored by FEMA and Smithsonian Institution which included Beatriz Centeno, Vicki Lee & Abigail Aldrich from National Archives and Record Administration (NARA); Nora Lockshin from Smithsonian Institution Archives for Smithsonian Cultural Rescue Initiative; and Elizabeth Milnarik from National Park Service offered a whole day seminar on General assessment of building and collections/holdings with an architect; General maintenance and passive environments in institutions; Lecture on personal protection equipment (PPE), possibly respirator fit testing; Hands-on demonstration and training on cleaning of storage and display furniture, paper, books, objects, paintings, and furniture. Training took place at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez on December 12; at the Museo de Arte de Ponce on the 13 and at Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico on December 14. A total of 87 participants benefited from the training.

Heritage Emergency and Response Training (HEART) Event - The Heritage Emergency National Task Force (HENTF) and the Smithsonian Cultural Rescue Initiative, in collaboration with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), provided the Heritage Emergency and Response Training to museum professionals in the Island. The training took place at the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico and topics ranged from collection salvage techniques, evacuation and long term planning for emergency management in a weeklong intensive course.

Rescate de recursos de información: Manejo de agua y hongos A group of graduate students (future librarians and archivist) from the Escuela Graduada de Ciencias y Tecnologías de la Información (EGCTI) from the University of Puerto Rico in Río Piedras had the opportunity to practice rescuing affected collections after a catastrophic event. The workshop was offered by Soraya Serra, registrar at the Museo de Arte de Ponce, at the Fundación Luis Muñoz Marín.
