June 2018
A news release from the American Library Association informs of the 20 grants awarded to institutions affected by the hurricane in the Caribbean (13 to Puerto Rico), and the Society of American Archivist also publishes more awards. Due to the extent of damages and the slow recovery of cultural institutions Puerto Rico is listed amongst “America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places”. Miriam Centeno, Collections Care Coordinator at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, returns to Puerto Rico this time to aid the University of Puerto Rico in Humacao with specialized training in collection salvage, and more efforts by Sujei Lugo to bring books to Puerto Rico are highlighted on the news.
