History
The Emerald Mine was opened in 1908 by the Williamsburg Slope Coal Company on land leased by the AT & SF Railroad. CF&I took over operation of the Mine December 1, 1919 after purchasing the equipment. Prior to its sale the mine produced 171,678 tons of coal. Production under CF&I was relatively small producing between 1,000 to 1,500 tons per month. CF&I invested $66,398.42 throughout the life of the mine. However unlike many CF&I mines there was no company town or store at the property.
