Quinto Coal Mine

Location: Las Animas County, Colorado

Total Production (tons): 172,994

The Quinto Mine was opened in December 1905 through a drift entry in a Bituminous coal seam around five feet thick, and closed less that three years later in 1908. The Operation produced 172,994 tons of coal during its short run, a third of which was sold off while the rest was used at company plants. Alex Alexander was Quinto's only Mine Superintendent, and he was transferred to the Frederick Mine after its closure.
