What is it about these sculptures?


What makes a subway-vent-linked inflatable animal sculpture captivating enough to make pedestrians stop, smile, and take pictures? How do the city and the subway machinery affect the way one experiences the art?

In this video, the street sweeper becomes an accidental art critic by mistaking the un-inflated sculpture made of trash bags for actual trash. The street sweeper's mistake as a spectator is a prime example of the mindset Harris' sculptures seek to shatter - expectations. How much does the daily grind in the city blind us to the unique happenings around us? Are we looking close enough, or are we seeing trash where there is in fact a hidden majestic creature?
