42 Lewis Carroll Would Approve

Through the Looking-Glass

Zach Siegel
2012

Named after Alice Liddell, the titular muse of the first Alice book, this grade-school primer written entirely in backward script would be   perfectly at home in Wonderland. The entry came with a handheld mirror to assist the viewer in reading the entries. Plenty of whimsical touches abound, including an absent entry for “L” (“Lunacy,” which, according to an inserted note, apparently skipped off the page the previous week and has not been seen since). In 2014, the USC Libraries produced a facsimile version of the book along with a scholarly introduction.
