Alice in LA

Chris Marshall and Tyler Sharp
2005

A photo essay set across Los Angeles reimagines Wonderland as an urban landscape, with Alice as a young adult traversing gritty street scenes on a journey of self-discovery. The pool of tears is a dirty pool of water in a parking lot, the Caterpillar is a young man smoking a hookah on his front steps, and a mad tea party is a group of drunken hooligans on a rooftop. Her travels conclude in the queen’s rose garden where a distraught Alice is reprimanded by an angry woman.
