My name is Mariel Geronimo, and I am a junior majoring in Philosophy. I am also an academic mentor for freshmen. One of my favorite things to do is travel, because I am able to immerse myself with different cultures and continue to learn about new perspectives. I am interested in this class because I want to learn more about migration. Last winter, I went to Ellis Island and got to go on an audio tour and listen to migrants' experiences. My connection with migration is my grandfather came to the United States, from the Philippines, to join the Navy. My dad and his family came to the United States at a young age, from the Philippines, too; and they always tell stories about what they encountered.
