Italian Migrations - HONOR313_FA18

Jason Valentini

My name is Jason Valentini, and I am a second year Business- Finance major with a minor in the Honors Interdisciplinary Studies while hopefully getting a public law certificate. I have grown up in San Diego my entire life, so San Diego State feels just like home. I live in a family of five with two older brothers, one of which went to school here.
As I’ve grown up, I have become increasingly closer to my nonna, who lives with my family and me. She helped expose me to my true heritage and culture more than anyone else in my life and truly opened my eyes to different experiences and lifestyles. Because of this, classes like these in college have been of fascination. On top of this, half of my family is very Italian and I have been surrounded by them my entire life. I hope this class can uncover even more about my past than I already know.
I personally have not migrated anywhere, but the immigrant mentality and culture has been engrained in me from my father and my nonna from my youth as she left from Calabria to Toronto, and my father from Toronto to here. Also, living in San Diego my whole life I have been able to clearly see all the benefits that arise with immigration nearly everyday.
