Italian Migrations - HONOR313_FA18

Alexa Smith

Hi, I’m Alexa Smith a second year Economics major with a double minor in Interdisciplinary Studies and leadership here at SDSU. I hope to pursue law school in Southern California after graduating SDSU. I currently am involved in my sorority as the Community Service Director and have completed an internship with the City of North Las Vegas Police training.

I chose to enroll in this course because I have always been interested in cultures both my own and the ones of my friends around me. I think it is so fascinating to see the similarities and differences between cultures and how beautiful unique each one is. My senior year of high school I became best friends with an Italian exchange student and I loved asking her about her culture and the stories she would share with me made me become fascinated with Italian culture.

My experience that ties me to migration is that my mother was the first of her siblings to be born in the United States because my Nana chose to come to the United States from Mexico to pursue a better life, thus making me a second generation.
