In Colosse, the player looks forward to a hunter who is ready to spear a small land creature before being interrupted by a colosse, one of the Great Spirits of the world. Both the player and the hunter hide from the colosse through various parts of the game until the hunter removes a gem embedded into the colosse’s chest which, then, deactivates the colosse.

Colosse explores themes of power, fear, and respect based on great spirits that were long lost. The game uses a virtual reality environment in which the player has no direct control over the action. However, the player can progress throughout the game through using eyesight. With the player moving his or her head and eyes around, the player can progress the story forward. This “Gaze” mechanic controls pacing and action, which is only triggered once the player looks at a particular point in space. The strength of the game is being able to tell a story without traditional game movement from the player while retaining a Virtual Reality experience.
