Scalar v. Other

After going through all of the information on the home page and playing with some of the features, I am still quite shaky with the platform.  It is something that I think has a bit of a learning curve, and takes considerable time to master.  The home page demo assumes that the user is familiar with blogging, which I think poses a problem: I picture bloggers as either aspiring writers or serious DIYers.  That assumption made me feel like I was at an extreme disadvantage, and right away (if not for the class) I would have found something simpler.  I like the ways in which it is "flat" and also not linear, but the assumption that all authors are equal in a Scalar work is false, as it assumes that all would have the same technological abilities.
Also this is the second site that has only worked on Chrome.  Not that I am super anti-Google, but I hate when I am unable to access a website on a computer without that browser.
