Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

And while it certainly seems to embody (pun intended) the issues of identity representation in VR, I couldn't help, after all the giggles had subsided, but wonder about the actual serious nature of this creation. Indeed, you have chosen the broad categories of species first, then into other categorizing fields. And, like I struggled with in my interrogation of VR representation - I find myself unable to comprehend ANY system that can avoid the pitfalls of the very RL structures that influence us. It seems that no matter how hard we may try to imagine a truly "utopian" space - I'm honestly wondering if it's even possible. Can there actually exist a space in which we can either truly embody our RL identity, or "try on" or "adopt" a new one for a new experience altogether. GAH! This week has really been a mind-bender for me!M. Elizabeth Bomhower
