Community

A community may be thought of as

a geographically-defined group of people (a neighborhood, township, city, etc.), and/or
a group with emotional ties to one another, offering partnerships in important undertakings and mutual support

Community engagement or community participation "seek[s] to involve the general public and local stakeholders in activities aimed at addressing challenges and opportunities with all perspectives recognized... [It has] varying structures, players, and outcomes, but seek[s] to build consensus and capacity around issues."

  We all borrow food practices and values from other people. But what are the channels through which we do this? Under what conditions do some people become teachers, and others learners? Items that describe social patterns in these channels and conditions help to explain how “structures of information and knowledge” become a factor shaping the food system.
