Simulacra

Simulacra is a representation of reality formed by imitating, and sometimes improving the reality. The word “simulacra” derived from Latin “simulacre” – likeness, similarity, and was originally used to describe the representation of something. Nowadays simulacra means something that gives the impression of being real: looks, sounds, tastes, feels the same as something real and evokes same responses, however, is artificial. Simulacra may also be an alternative to the reality and even better version of the reality.

One example of simulacra in art is the work of  Giuseppe Arcimboldo “Spring”. Painting different plants the artist creates an image that looks like face. However, in reality it is still a picture of plants, which simply look like face and so, give off the impression of being a face.
