12021-09-23T18:23:38-07:00University of Alaska Anchorage Department of Englishdfa0ec4bec9eb2e87270c48641b61a5da7951c18393051plain2021-09-23T18:23:38-07:00University of Alaska Anchorage Department of Englishdfa0ec4bec9eb2e87270c48641b61a5da7951c18You know by the sounds of the outdoors as creation sings a sweet melody coming in through the sliding glass door the buzzing of the bees lawnmowers droning in the distance delightful chirps of birds in different pitches, colliding in a chorus meant just for the worship of Summer the melodious croaking of the frogs at night my very own lullaby cats and dogs fighting for who gets the grass in the afternoon kids on swings and bikes, yelling and splashing in the water the heat of the sun wrapping me in warmth whose kiss I can still feel hours after I leave it slowly turning my pale skin golden as if Earth is welcoming us back after the fierceness of the winter arms outspread giving us a hug and a kiss painting the sky in a pink and red sunset letting it brush the treetops, sky and earth meet framing the vast blue mountains with vibrant color the air thick with fresh cut grass and flowers humidity's warm embrace making my hair curl and my pores sticky with sweat summer’s gift leaves us feeling connected and at peace, alive and human. HALEY HANNA is a senior and pursuing a Baccalaureate of English Literature with a minor in Creative Writing and Psychology. She is a literature loving booknerd who holds a special place in her heart for poetry. Poetry is a way to understand and express yourself, it can be fun, serious, or whatever you want it to be.
