Summer's Gift
as creation sings a sweet melody
coming in through the sliding glass door
the buzzing of the bees
lawnmowers droning in the distance
delightful chirps of birds
in different pitches,
colliding in a chorus
meant just for the worship of Summer
the melodious croaking of the frogs at night
my very own lullaby
cats and dogs fighting for who gets the grass
in the afternoon
kids on swings and bikes,
yelling and splashing in the water
the heat of the sun wrapping me in warmth
whose kiss I can still feel hours after I leave it
slowly turning my pale skin golden
as if Earth is welcoming us back
after the fierceness of the winter
arms outspread giving us a hug and a kiss
painting the sky in a pink and red sunset
letting it brush the treetops, sky and earth meet
framing the vast blue mountains with vibrant color
the air thick with fresh cut grass and flowers
humidity's warm embrace
making my hair curl and my pores sticky with sweat
summer’s gift leaves us feeling connected and at peace,
alive and human.
