Healing

It didn't happen overnight
an agonizingly slow and beautiful process
the deflated cracks in my ribs fill
the open sores in my soul patch themselves
my hungry animal brain learns the kind of love it has thirsted for, for so long
the once frantic mind begins to slow,
to dust off the things that once seemed to be so make or break, so end all be all
and begins to understand what it means to be alive
to choose forgiveness over bitterness
to choose relationships over perfection
maybe my outsides will begin to reflect my insides
when they feel so bubbly and alive
laughter bursts through thawing the once frozen gates,
a once hopeless soul heals.
