Rainy Rememberance
Both sides refusing to yield
A hungry beast, war rages on
The soldiers are the king’s pawns
As the ground turns to mud and slop
Scared young men have tears that drop
Drowned out is a wild cry
By the thunder that rolls across the sky
Cries are cut short as men die
The deluge continues to fall from the sky
Water seeps into the ground
Paying homage to those who are bound
To lay there in rest
Young men whose lives are wrest
From their breasts too soon
Their bodies across the field strewn
The next day dawns quiet and clear
An eerie battlefield seared of fear
Days pass by under tremulous skies
And before onlookers’ eyes
A grand bouquet blooms
Peace replacing the smoky plumes
From the fallen this gift is giving
A field of remembrance for the living
