My People, My Pain

My people, my pain —
black and bruised.
My people, my pain —
torn and abused.
My people, my pain —
smoke filled air.
My people, my pain —
misery and despair.
My people, my pain —
victims of circumstance.
My people, my pain —
criminals at first glance.
My people, my pain —
a nuisance to society.
My people, my pain —
our trauma is hereditary.
My people, my pain —
an inconvenient truth.
My people, my pain —
death and a voting booth.
My people, my pain —
Floyd, Taylor, much more.
My people, my pain —
hopeless world, brutality galore.
