The Space Age Hits the Road: Visionary Car Designs in America

1953 Cadillac Le Mans

Queen of the International Motor Revue Barbara Wilson poses with Beth Crowl in Harry Karl’s tricked-out, gold accented Cadillac at the Pan Pacific Auditorium in the Fairfax District. Karl purchased the vehicle in 1954 and had it customized for his wife, actress Marie McDonald. The iconic art deco auditorium was the site of most local car shows until the Los Angeles Convention Center opened in 1972. Sadly, both the car and the venue were lost to fires in the 1980s.
