Tourism

Piranesi catered to tourists in many of the Vedute di Roma, particularly the earliest etchings, by depicting well-known points of interest. These images often also hint at his interests in antiquity and archaeology, which are more overtly displayed in his later publications.

All this area, memorable in Roman History particularly for the Rostra, from which one would advocate causes to the People, they displayed the heads of those who were killed, or outlawed, for example the bloodied robe of Caesar by Marc Anthony, the head and hand of Cicero, etcetera, and finally, where bloody deeds between Roman Citizens took place. Title and Description: View of the Temple of Bacchus, today the Church of Sant’Urbano, two miles from Rome outside the Porta San Sebastiano. This temple is the most intact of this form that remains in Rome today, both in its exterior and interior. Its Altar is also preserved in the Pronaos with the inscription: εCTIAI ΔIONYCOY AπPωNIANOC IζPOΦANTHC: Altar of Bacchus, Apronian Priest. Key: 1.
